Updated the Bohn Omnitrex 8 exhibit to add a photo of the Bohn Omnitrex 12, a twelve digit machine that is visually almost identical to the Omnitrex 8, but with four additional digits of capacity, added constant mode, and full support for numbers with decimal points. Updated the Links page to include a link to Brian Cauchi's Friden 130 on a FPGA website. Brian has built a facsimilie of a Friden 130 using current-day FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) technology and an oscilloscope for the display. An amazing accomplishment, very worthy of checking out.

A new feature is added to the Old Calculator Web Museum. The museum now has its own blog. A link to the blog has been placed in the Articles & Other Information page for visitors to use to access the blog. The blog is a place where the curator can ramble on about various projects going on in the museum, interesting discoveries or tidbits of information, or whatever else may be knocking around inside his head at any given time. Please check out the blog to learn about work to restore a Wang 370/371 Programmer.

Updated the Wang 700-Series Architecture Document to include information about a mysterious microcode function (MOP14), which is listed in known Wang documentation as an illegal or spare function, but has found to be used within 700-Series calculator microcode. Further evidence indicates that this particular MOP code (1110) is also referenced in schematics, but the logic behind its function is quite convoluted, and has yet to be deciphered. If anyone out there knows the function of MOP14, please get in touch. For now, this function remains a mystery, and the document has been updated to reflect this mystery.

Mr. Moriyasu was a prolific engineer and skilled leader at Tektronix for many years. He invented the concept of a digital storage oscilloscope; was involved in the formation of the Tektronix calculator division with the acquisition of Cintra; a key player in the development of the groundbreaking Tektronix 4051 desktop computer, which set IBM on its heels; and after his tenure at Tektronix, forming two companies involved in high-tech development. Mr. Moriyasu was 70 years old.

Museum News:For the next 12 to 14 months, the Old Calculator Web Museum will see limited updates due the curator moving into temporary quarters while awaiting the construction of a new home. All of the museum's machines are in storage during this time. Once the new home is completed, the museum will be moved into a 1800 sq. ft. heated/air conditioned shop building which is currently serving as storage for all of our household items (furniture, and many, many boxes of stuff) which will serve as a physical museum, as well as the workshop for performing calculator restoration and maintenance. For a period of time between February 5, 2004, and February 13, 2004, EMail directed to the museum bounced during the time the our server was offline for the move. If you sent EMail to the museum during this time, please resend your message.

Visitors can now use http://oldcalculatormuseum.com instead of the previous "http://www.geocities.com/oldcalculators" as a means to access the site. The previous URL will continue to work indefinitely, so there is no need to change bookmarks.

Added the Logicon "Computer" to the Wanted Page. Special thanks to Dr. Norman Martin, the inventor of this purpose-built programmable calculator to assist engineering computations at Logicon, Inc., for the use of this photo, and providing information about this wonderful machine. With the help of Dr. Martin, I am putting together an essay about this machine. While it was never marketed as a commercial product, this machine still holds a place in the history of desktop electronic calculating machines.

Ahrens was involved in the early days of electronic calculators at Friden. His story outlines the early days of Mr. Ahrens' employment at Friden, and highlights some of his memories of the development, and the people behind the development, of Friden's first electronic calculators.
