News Archive - Singer & Hitachi Joint Venture Agreement
Brief newspaper article announcing the signing of an agreement
for Singer Company and Hitachi, Ltd. to engage in a joint venture
for marketing and manufacture of business machines manufactured
by both companies. There had been a long period prior to this joint venture where Hitachi-manufactured electronic calculators were
marketed under the Singer/Friden brand dating back to sometime in
1967, beginning with the Friden 1112, which was the Singer/Friden version of Hitachi's
ELCA 12 electronic calculator. The ELCA 12 was Hitachi's first (all transistor)
electronic calculator.
