Welcome to the Old Calculator (Web) Museum
Before getting into the details of the exhibits in the museum,
it is strongly advised that the visitor read through the
Old Calculator Museum's
Frequently Asked Questions(FAQ)
page. Here most of the common questions asked regarding the museum are
answered in hopes that any question you might have will be answered
there. Of course, if you have a question that isn't answered in the
FAQ, please do not hesitate to contact us.
The curator of this museum is passionate about preserving, restoring,
and sharing information about old (primarily)electronic and
(secondarily)electro-mechanical calculating devices. For over 40 years,
the curator has been collecting calculators, accessories, documentation,
and anything else that is related to early personal calculating machines
from the most advanced electro-mechanical calculators of the late 1950s
through the late 1960's, and especially early electronic calculators beginning
in around 1961, through the early 1970's when the advent of large scale
integrated circuits eventually turned calculators into commodity items.
Over all these years, the curator has come across some interesting and
historical calculators, as well as documentation, interviews with some of
the folks that were involved with the development of the calculators,
and a lot of information shared between vintage calculator enthusiasts (Yes,
I'm not the only one interested in this old stuff).
In mid-1997, it was decided that a web site to document the calculators
that have been found, along with as much information
about their history, technology, and the people involved in creating
the machines. This is when the Old Calculator Web Museum came to be.
If you have questions about any of the calculators exhibited here, have
more information or comments regarding this site, were involved in
electronic calculator development in the 1960's, or find factual, typographical,
spelling or grammatical errors, please do not hesitate to send an
EMail to the curator with your questions or
information.
Every attempt is made to respond to messages sent to the museum within seven
days of receipt. Sometimes it may take a few days longer. Please be patient
waiting for a response. If there is some urgency to getting a response,
please indicate so in your message and an effort will be made to respond
as soon as possible.
PLEASE NOTE
The Old Calculator Museum specializes primarily in early electronic
calculators, as well as some in late-model motorized mechanical calculators
that can automatically add, subtract, multiply and divide without human
intervention. The museum does not collect or have any information
about adding machines, comptometers, counters, or other
mechanical devices that can only add or perhaps subtract. We do not have any
expertise in these ancient devices and can't provide information or reference
for such devices. Please do not write the museum asking about such
devices as we simply don't have the resources to provide any useful
assistance. Please see the museum's
Frequently Asked Questions page for more information.
The Old Calculator Museum is not a resource for purchasing calculators,
calculator parts or accessories, or documentation(manuals). Please
refrain from asking about purchasing anything from the museum. The only
items that the museum may sell are listed at the end of the museum's
Wanted page. If you are interested
in any of the items listed for sale or trade there, please do not hesitate
to ask.
The calculators in the
museum's collection are arranged in this listing
in rough order as to their estimated age based on date of manufacture,
oldest to newest. Click on any of the links in the
list below to go to the exhibit page for the particular calculator.
A listing of the
content of the museum by manufacturer is available.
The listing by manufacturer is independent of this chronological
listing. As a result, links for "Next" and "Previous" exhibits
within the exhibit pages will link to the next and previous exhibit in
chronological order rather than by manufacturer.
Calculators listed that do not have a link associated with them are present
in the museum's collection but have not yet had exhibits prepared for them.
If you have any questions about calculators that are in the museum's
collection but do not yet have an exhibit prepared, don't hesitate to drop
us an Email and we'll do our best to answer any questions you have.
Many exhibits (but not all) include a Spec Sheet for the exhibited
calculator. The Spec Sheet includes a rundown of the
general information about the calculator, such as size, weight, power
requirements, technology used, features, quirks, and more.
To see the Spec Sheet for a calculator, simply click on the main picture of
the calculator (or the "Specs" link on the navigation bar at the top of the
page) shown at the top of each exhibit page. The Spec Sheet also has links back
to the exhibit page the machine, to related or similar machines, and also links
to documentation for the calculator, as well as a link back
to this list of calculators in the museum.
